Dozens and dozens and dozens of Beta Upsilon Sigma Chi alumni brothers have donated some of their hard-earned money to chapter scholarships because it feels good, it elevates the trajectory of young lives and it's a gratifying way to give back to the institution that helped make you the man you are today. And it's all tax-deductible through the Sigma Chi Foundation.

 

During our capital campaign to build our new chapter house a number of years ago, hundreds of brothers donated. Those leading donors are shown at the bottom of this page.

 

Now we are focused on building the intangible at Beta Upsilon with world-class leadership seminars and tuition scholarships. We list those leading donors here.

1. THE BETA UPSILON BELL LEADERSHIP ENDOWMENT is our largest and most impactful fund, we hope will reach the $750,000 "Platinum Level" providing $15,000 in tuition scholarships every year to undergraduate brothers at our chapter only in good standing and living in the house, PLUS elite level on-site leadership training seminars giving each participate an actual stackable certificate with a badge on LinkedIn. Several accredited facilitators travel to the chapter house so that every guy can be a part of it in this world class curriculum.

2. THE LARRY CULVER LEADERSHIP FUND, part of the Bell Endowment, honors one of our chapter's greatest brothers. Larry entered Chapter Eternal in fall 2026 after a lifetime of achievement and giving back to WSU and Beta Upsilon. If you knew Larry, you know how dedicated he was to our fraternity.

3. THE WSU SIGMA CHI SEVEN LIGHTS SCHOLARSHIPS ENDOWMENT gives $4,000 in tuition scholarships every year in perpetuity to Beta Upsilon brothers in good standing and living in the house. This endowment was founded by Dr. Brian Voortman, Scott Lennon, Garith Krause, with continuing funding from John Coulthard, Mike Allert and Del Schwisow.

4. DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS is an innovative tuition scholarship conceived of and endowed by Bobby Thompson. It brings the elected positions of Historian, PR Chair, Alumni Relations and Chapter Editor under one mission as the main external communications person. 5. BETA UPSILON SWEETHEART SCHOLARSHIP is one of the very few tuition scholarships in Sigma Chi solely for the chapter Sweetheart. It provides at $1,000 scholarship every year. It was founded by Steve and Sherri Smolinske and then endowed by Tom Johnson (aka ToJo).
